Another Weekend Ends Warm (April 14-16)

High pressure has control for a mostly-nice weekend. Let’s break it down…

Disco: The main players this weekend are an area of high pressure and weak warm and cold fronts. High pressure should form to our NW tonight and move directly across NJ by tomorrow morning into the ocean. It should then settle for a bit in the middle of Cape Cod and Bermuda (off Delmarva/OBX). This should provide a warmer anticyclonic return flow over NJ for Saturday and especially Sunday. A weak warm front should pass through on Saturday which should at least bring some cloud coverage across the region. Precipitation is modeled very light and scattered sparsely. Therefore a small chance of nuisance sprinkles are possible for Saturday but my gut says most areas stay on the drier side despite the cloudiness. Sunday looks like the best day of the weekend. A cold front will then approach the region Sunday night into Monday which brings the chance for more scattered nuisance precipitation. Therefore the weekend looks mostly nice with the caveat of a few nuisance showers here and there.

Friday (April 14) high temperatures should reach well into the 60s for most. Coastal regions could be held in the upper-50s. Skies should be mixed with sun and clouds but a small chill should exist thanks to light N flow. Overnight lows should fall into the 40s for most and possibly the 30s for interior NNJ/CNJ. Therefore a frost is possible for said areas.

Saturday (April 15) high temperatures should reach into the 60s for most. Once again, the coast could be held in the 50s. Skies should be mostly cloudy with some sun poking through. A small chance of scattered showers exists but most should stay dry. Winds should be light out of the S/SW. Overnight lows should only fall into the 50s statewide.

Sunday (April 16) high temperatures should break 80 for many. Do some interior CNJ/SNJ areas flirt with 90? Either way, it will be a very warm and mild day for April. The coast could be held to the 70s which should feel amazing. Winds should be light out of the W/SW. Overnight lows should again be held above 50 statewide. Light rain is possible overnight into Monday as a cold front approaches.

An early look at next week indicates more 60s/70s for highs and 40s/50s for lows. Some showers here and there but no severe outbreaks showing at this time. Pretty run-of-mill NJ spring weather IMO. Let’s revisit on Sunday evening. Everyone have a great weekend and please be safe! JC
