Gorgeous Weekend Expected! (May 1-3)

The coastal low pressure system currently off OBX will be drifting out to sea today-tonight. High pressure will move in behind and allow a mostly beautiful Saturday and Sunday. Just a small chance of isolated rain showers but we’ll address that in the breakdown:

Friday should reach into the 60s away from the ocean. Coastal regions should be held in the 50s due to onshore flow associated with the departing coastal low pressure disturbance. With that said expect a mixed bag of clouds off the ocean with a few sun breaks. Easterly winds will eventually subside overnight but until then expect 10-15mph winds out of the E with gusts to 25mph (mostly for the coast). Again, winds will calm overnight as temperatures bottom out in the 40s statewide.

Saturday should reach into the 70s for most away from the ocean. Coastal regions, especially SENJ, should be held in the 60s. Skies should be mostly sunny but watch out for an afternoon isolated rain shower. The sun will be beating down pretty good and could possibly touch off a few instability-driven pockets of light rain. Let me stress that this is only an isolated and small possibility. Most of the day should be dry and mild. Winds should be light out of the NE and perhaps a bit breezier along the coast. Overnight lows should then fall into the 40s statewide.

Sunday is looking like a 10! Highs should approach and flirt with 80 away from the ocean but easily reach into the 70s for even coastal regions. Expect mostly sunny skies with light winds out of the W. Overnight lows should fall into the 50s for most of the state and 40s for NWNJ.

An early look at next week indicates sunny skies with temperatures in the 70s and 80s. People of Weather NJ, we are finally free of Old Man Winter’s late grasp.
