Transitional Weather Expected (Aug 21-15)

This week should transition from summery to an early taste of fall…

Discussion: High pressure will slide into the ocean and provide a warm and humid flow through Wednesday morning. This should keep the region unsettled with rainfall and thunderstorms possible. A cold front should then move through from NW to SE and transition much of the region to an early taste of fall feel. Still warm during the day but cool and crisp at night. That trend looks to last from Thursday into the weekend.

Monday (Aug 21) high temperatures should reach into the 80s statewide. Interior CNJ/SNJ could break 90. Skies should be partly sunny for the  solar eclipse. It begins at 115pm, peaks at 245pm and ends just before 4pm. Please use safe methods of viewing! Winds should be light out of the S/SW. Overnight lows should fall into the upper-60s/lower-70s statewide.

Tuesday (Aug 22) high temperatures should reach at least 90 away from the ocean in CNJ/SNJ. Skies should be partly sunny and humid. Isolated showers and thunderstorms are possible. Winds should be light out of the S/SW. Overnight lows should fall into the upper-60s/lower-70s statewide.

Wednesday (Aug 23) high temperatures should reach the low-to-mid 80s statewide. Skies should be partly sunny to start but increase in cloud coverage throughout the day. Rain and thunderstorms are possible along the cold front. Winds should be light out of the W/NW. Overnight lows should fall into the 60s for most with NNJ elevations likely dipping into the 50s.

Thursday (Aug 24) high temperatures should reach the mid-to-upper 70s for most. A few spots might flirt with 80. Skies should be partly sunny and pleasant with the cold front through. Winds should be light out of the NW. Overnight lows should dip into the 50s for most, possibly even the upper-40s for NNJ elevations and in the pine barrens. Immediate coastal areas could hang in the upper-60s due to marine influence. Sounds like a possible fog-maker to me!

Friday (Aug 25) high temperatures should reach the mid-to-upper 70s for most. A few spots might again flirt with 80. Skies should be partly sunny and once again pleasant. Winds should be light out of the NW. Overnight lows should again dip into the 50s for most. Immediate coastal areas could again hang in the 60s due to marine influence. Again, watch out for fog especially near the coast.

An early look at the weekend indicates the comfortable and pleasant weather continuing through most of the weekend. The tropics are active but no immediate threats to New Jersey exist. Have a great week and please be safe! JC
