Dry and Sunny Conditions Expected (April 20-22)

Discussion: High pressure will have control of the region this weekend as it floats from the Great lakes over the Mid-Atlantic/Northeast US. Since the high will be approaching for most of the weekend, we’ll still deal with annoying cooler NW winds. Today looks like the breeziest day. As winds subside and the high gets more overhead later in the weekend, conditions should feel milder. We do have the later-April sun angle on our side for higher afternoon peak temperatures. By Monday, the high should depart into the ocean and begin throwing in even warmer return flow out of the S. This flow should team up with an approaching disturbance later next week and force a warmer rainfall prior to next weekend. It’s looking like a slow gradual build of sustainable spring weather from this weekend and forward.

Friday (April 20) high temperatures should reach the low-to-mid 50s for most. Skies should be mostly sunny. Winds should be breezy, sometimes gusty, out of the NW. Overnight lows should fall into the 30s statewide rendering a freeze/frost threat.

Saturday (April 21) high temperatures should reach the mid-to-upper 50s for most. Skies should remain clear with lighter winds out of the NW than Friday. Overnight lows should again fall into the 30s for most allowing for freeze/frost.

Sunday (April 22) high temperatures should reach the low-to-mid 60s for most away from the ocean. Immediate coastal regions could be held to the mid-to-upper 50s. Skies should be mostly sunny. Winds should be light out of the NW. Overnight lows should fall to near-40 for most which would allow another frost. NWNJ elevations could fall into freeze territory.

An early look at next week indicates more sunshine to start with high temperatures in the 60s. Some mid-to-late week rain is expected but temperatures should stay mild in the 60s. From next weekend and forward we should transition from sustained low-to-mid 60s to mid-to-upper 60s.
