Typical Spring Conditions (April 12-14)

Discussion: The main players on the field this weekend are an easterly-departing high and low cutting through the Great Lakes. This configuration should produce mild S flow for most of the weekend. Friday and Saturday daylight hours look pretty good. Overnight hours however (Friday night into Saturday morning) should feature a rainy, possibly stormy, frontal passage. Once that clears out Saturday morning both Saturday and most of Sunday look dry, mild but possibly some annoying clouds (we’ll see). If we can get enough sunshine between clouds then breaking 80 is not impossible for the typical warmer regions of interior CNJ/SNJ. In my opinion SNJ has a better chance of more cloud coverage than NNJ. By Sunday night more rain, possibly thunderstorms, should approach and move through by late Monday morning. The rest of next week looks pretty good with dry 60s and 70s for highs.

Friday (April 12) high temperatures should reach into the 60s for most. CNJ/SNJ areas away from the ocean have the best chance to break into the 70s. Skies should be mixed with clouds and sunny breaks. Winds should be light-to-breezy out of the S/SE. Overnight lows should only fall into the 50s statewide with rain and t-storms possible overnight into Saturday morning.

Saturday (April 13) high temperatures should easily break into the 70s for most. We’ll have to see if 80 is possible for interior CNJ/SNJ based on how much sunshine gets through. Coastal regions could hang near-70 possibly just the upper-60s. AM rain/t-storms should end and clear to the SE by mid-to-late morning. The rest of the day should be dry, sunnier for NNJ cloudier for SNJ. Winds should be light out of the S/SW. Overnight lows should again fail to dip below the 50s statewide.

Sunday (April 14) high temperatures should reach into the 60s for most. Skies should gradually increase in cloud coverage throughout the day with rain and t-storms possible towards late-evening/overnight hours. Winds should be light out of the E/NE. Overnight lows should fall to near-60 for most as rain persists overnight.

An early look at next week indicates mild conditions with highs in the 60s and 70s. After rain tapers off Monday morning the rest of the week looks dry as well. We have finally turned the corner on sustained spring warmth. Next weekend might feature a strong frontal passage which could produce rain and storms. Let’s take a closer look at everything on Sunday evening. Have a great weekend and please be safe! JC
