Cooler Rainier Pattern Sustains

Discussion: An upper-level low will move into the region by Tuesday/Wednesday and meander around the Mid-Atlantic/Northeast US through this weekend. It will keep NJ wet through at least Thursday night, possibly Friday. The stormiest conditions should occur Wednesday PM just ahead/during a cold front. We then see another transient cold period behind that cold front but clearing in time for the weekend. Saturday and Sunday both have a shot at hitting 60 like this past weekend. We just need to get through the 40s/50s and rain this week. There’s a small chance for wintry precipitation this Wednesday night into Thursday morning, mainly for NNJ elevations. But little-to-no accumulation would be possible as temps should quickly rise for NNJ Thursday. Next week looks to reach into the 60s maybe even 70. Would be nice but remember, the ocean is still in the mid-40s. Any sort of onshore flow will significantly chill down at least the coast. My point is that warmer periods are still transient through April with cooler/wetter periods likely more prolonged. I’m starting to think allergies might be bad with all the rainfall, especially once the sun blares with temps in the 70s.

Monday (April 1) high temperatures are maxing in the mid-to-upper 40s for most NJ locations with a few spots just over 50. It rained for the first half of today but now we’ll see a break until Tuesday AM. The rest of today (Monday) might feature some sunny breaks but clouds should eventually return for overnight hours. Winds should remain light out of the NE, slightly breezier for the coast. Overnight lows should fall into the low-to-mid 40s as more rain returns by daybreak Tuesday.

Tuesday (April 2) high temperatures should reach the 40-45 range for most NJ locations. Skies should be mostly cloudy with periods of rain likely. Winds should be light-to-breezy out of the E/NE. Overnight lows should fall into the 40-45 range as rain chances continue into Wednesday.

Wednesday (April 3) high temperatures should range from 45-60 from NNJ elevations to SNJ coasts. Skies should remain mostly cloudy with rain likely through morning hours. Thunderstorms are possible in the afternoon along cold front. Can’t rule out mixed precipitation for NNJ elevations but little to no accumulation. Winds should be breezy out of the E but then transition to S/SW just ahead of cold front and NW later overnight. Overnight lows should fall into the 30s/40s for most with NNJ elevations the lowest in the 30s and therefore best chance for mixed precipitation (snow/sleet/etc.).

Thursday (April 4) high temperatures should range from mid-40s to mid-50s from NNJ elevations to SNJ coasts. Skies should be mostly cloudy. It shouldn’t be as rainy as Tuesday-Wednesday but still some remnant showers around. Any mixed precipitation would occur prior to sunrise (little-to-no accumulation) then all rain once temps rise with the sun. Winds should be breezy out of the W. Overnight lows should fall into the 30s for most NJ locations with more remnant flurries possible for elevations/rain possible for the rest of NJ.

Friday (April 5) high temperatures should reach the mid-to-upper 40s for most NJ locations. Skies should be mixed with sun and clouds. Can’t rule out a few isolated showers. Winds should be light out of the NW. Overnight lows should fall to the 35-40 range.  

An early look at the weekend indicates a break from the rain with highs into the 50s, maybe 60s. That should then usher us into a warmer next week with 70 possible at times but also more rain chances.
