A Rainy Saturday Night into Sunday Morning

Discussion: The upper flow should remain zonal for the weekend but then kink into a NW flow pattern for next week. At the surface this means humid and rain conditions for NJ between Saturday afternoon/evening and Sunday around noon. Improvement is expected Sunday afternoon-forward. The humidity should drop again and so will temperatures for much of next week. With any luck, most rain this weekend will fall between later Saturday night and Sunday morning—allowing drier daytime hours earlier Saturday and later Sunday. The tropics remain quiet but we could see a tropical system form way offshore next week closer to Bermuda.  

Forecast

Friday (Sept 11) started wet but improved significantly. Conditions will remain fair and clear with light winds out of the E/NE. Overnight lows should fall to the 50-60 range for most NJ locations away from the ocean and to the 60-65 range for immediate coastal areas. The temporary reduction in humidity should feel nice.

Saturday (Sept 12) high temperatures should reach near-80 for most NJ locations. Skies should start out ok with increasing humidity from S to N through NJ. Showers are possible for SNJ by afternoon-evening hours and then periods of rain statewide overnight. Winds should be light-to-breezy out of the E/SE. Overnight lows should fall to the 65-73 range NNJ to SNJ as rain continues into early Sunday morning.  

Sunday (Sept 13) high temperatures should reach the low-to-mid 80s for most NJ locations. Skies should be mostly cloudy with periods of rain to start. Improvement is expected from afternoon into evening hours. Winds should be light out of the SW. Overnight lows should fall to the 60-70 range NNJ to SNJ.

An early look at next week (Sept 14-18) indicates less humid conditions with highs in the upper-70s/near-80 and lows in the 40s/50s away from the ocean (near-60 along the immediate coasts). Not a lot of rain showing but at least we are out of the troublesome drought status. We’re still a little low on water tables, especially in SENJ but yeah, most of the state is doing much better. The tropics remain quiet outside of a possible fish storm later next week. Have a great weekend and please be safe! JC
