Colder Weekend Expected (April 8-10)

This weekend will feature cold overnight temperatures and cool daytime high temperatures with nuisance wintry precipitation possible. Let’s break it down:

Friday (April 8) high temperatures should reach the upper-40s for NNJ elevations and lower-50s for the rest of New Jersey. Skies should feature a mixed bag of sun and clouds with a passing shower possible. Northern areas could possibly see a sleet/snow mix. Winds should be light-to-breezy out of the W. Overnight lows should range from mid-20s for NNJ elevations to about 40 along the SNJ coast.

Saturday (April 9) high temperatures should reach the mid-to-upper 30s for NNJ elevations and low-to-mid 40s for the rest of New Jersey. Skies should be mostly cloudy. Snow is possible for NNJ while CNJ and SNJ should likely see a mix of snow and rain. Winds should be breezy and rock in direction as the storm system swings through. Overnight lows should fall into the 20s statewide with NNJ elevations possibly dipping into the teens as precipitation tapers off by the early AM hours of Sunday.

Snow Discussion: Because most precipitation should fall during the day on Saturday, little to no accumulations are expected for most of the state. Only elevations and parts of NNJ should squeeze out a coating to a few slushy inches and mostly on natural surfaces only. The sun angle is getting higher each day and seasonal climatology is king re: snow accumulations. Is it possible? Sure, with a much stronger storm system but this is a weak transfer of low pressure that tries to swing through as an inverted trough. Meh…

Sunday (April 10) high temperatures should reach the mid-40s statewide. Skies should be partly-to-mostly sunny. Winds should be light out of the W/SW. Overnight lows should fall into the upper-30s/lower-40s statewide.

WeatherTrends360 QuickCast Dashboard

An early look at next week indicates high temperatures in the mid-to-upper 50s and overnight low temperatures in the upper-30s/lower-40s. The first half of the week looks cloudier than the second half with spring showers possible any day. Saturday (April 16)-forward should feature sustained highs in the 60s/70s to close out April. We’re almost there. Have a great weekend and be safe! JC
