Comfortable Conditions (April 5-9)

Discussion: Not a lot going on this week. Monday through Thursday fall under the front side of a ridge. This should allow most locations to near-70 during the day and stay above 40 at night. Friday then looks a little cooler with more onshore flow involved. The ocean is warming but still in the mid-40s. This can set up a situation where ECNJ/SENJ barrier islands and immediate coastal areas hang in the upper-50s while just a few miles inland is near 70. A few spring showers here and there during the week. Friday night into Saturday morning looks like a more significant rain with the rest of the weekend looking pretty good. Some long range guidance indicates a cooler next week but I’m not feeling it. Let’s take every 7 days at a time.

Monday (April 5) high temperatures should reach 70 for many. I could see elevations and immediate coastal regions possibly hanging in the 60s. Skies should be mostly sunny. Winds should be light-to-breezy out of the W/NW. Low humidity + breeze = rapid fire spread if any fires occur. Overnight lows should range from near-40 to near-50 from elevations to coasts.

Tuesday (April 6) high temperatures should behave like Monday. Most reach near-70. Some spots hang in the 60s. Skies should be mixed with sun and clouds, perhaps a little cloudier for SNJ than NNJ. Winds should be light out of the W/NW. The fire spread potential should lessen as the breeze relaxes by afternoon hours. Overnight lows should range from near-40 to near-50 from elevations to coasts.

Wednesday (April 7) high temperatures should break 70 for most of NNJ and CNJ with mostly sunny skies. SNJ, especially SENJ, could hang cooler with cloudier skies and even a few showers. Winds should be light out of the NW. Overnight lows should fall into the low-to-mid 40s.

Thursday (April 8) high temperatures should again reach 70 for most of NJ. Light onshore flow should hold immediate ECNJ/SENJ closer to 60. Skies should be mixed with sun and clouds. Winds should be light out of the E/SE. Overnight lows should range from near-40 to near-50 from elevations to coasts.

Friday (April 9) high temperatures should range from 55-60 for most. Skies should be mostly cloudy with periods of rain likely. Winds should be light-to-breezy out of the E. Overnight lows should range from near-40 to near-50 from elevations to coasts as rain tapers off overnight.

An early look at the weekend indicates highs in the lower-6os and lows in the 40s for most areas with unsettled conditions. Sunday looks like the wetter day but both could see rain. Have a great week and please be safe! JC
