Cool Mixed Conditions (May 8-9)

Discussion: We should remain in a cooler pattern with temperatures below-average for another week. The Mid-Atlantic US, and most of the EC, cannot escape the relentless progressive trough pattern. At the very least this keeps us cool but also unsettled with clouds and rain. It looks like some ridging moves in around May 15 and at least establishes a pattern where highs regularly reach into the 70s or greater. I don’t see any heat waves on the near-horizon though.

Saturday (May 8) high temperatures should range from near-50 to near-60 from NNJ to SNJ. Skies should be mostly cloudy. A few sunny breaks but also likely showers around. Winds should be light out of the NW. Overnight lows should range from near-40 to near-50. Bleh.

Sunday (May 9) high temperatures should reach the low-to-mid 60s. It looks like morning and early afternoon hours will be ok for Mother’s day. Afternoon-forward conditions could deteriorate, especially for NNJ as rain moves in from the NW. SNJ might escape it and just turn cloudier in the afternoon. Winds should be light out of the S/SW. Overnight lows should range from mid-40s to mid-50s from elevations to coasts.

An early look at next week indicates highs in the 60-65 range with lows ranging from upper-30s to lower-50s elevations to coasts. Tuesday-Wednesday look like the clearest days. All other days appear unsettled (cloudy with rain possible). The cooler pattern should continue until about May 15. From thereon it looks like highs in the 70s will become the norm.
