Great Conditions Expected

Discussion: Most areas are currently (Thursday afternoon) running 55-65 degrees and it feels quite nice in the sun IMO. The general concept of a prolonged cold/cool spring continues minus a few transient warmer episodes here and there. It looks like the below-average conditions will continue into at least the start of May. This will be due to blocking keeping the E US under a trough pattern rather than a ridge pattern. It allows cooler air to spill down from Canada and for backdoor cold fronts to come off the ocean when high pressure passes to NJ’s N. Just keep in mind, below average for May means 60-65 instead of 65-70. Still a great day, especially with sun. But the days where temps max out in the 50s are coming to an end likely after next week. The sun angle is simply getting too high now. For this weekend, we have a very weak but broad area of high pressure in control which will settle the region (dry and not too windy). The high will move offshore and put us in another warm sector for Sunday-Monday with a cold front expected to push through by Tuesday. Therefore next Wednesday-Friday looks cooler again (highs in the 50s). Temps should then return back to the 60s for next weekend.

Friday (April 22) high temperatures should reach the mid-to-upper 60s for most areas. Wouldn’t be surprised to see a few places break 70. Skies should be mostly sunny. Winds should be light out of the NW. Overnight lows should fall into the mid-to-upper 40s for most.

Saturday (April 23) high temperatures should reach into the 60s again for most. Immediate SENJ coastal areas a little cooler from marine influence. Skies should be mixed with sun and clouds. Overnight lows should fall to near-50 for most.

Sunday (April 24) high temperatures should reach well into the 70s for most areas. 80s are easily possible during afternoon hours. Again, coastal regions held cooler from marine influence. Skies should be mostly sunny during the day with a few clouds moving in by sunset. Winds should be light out of the S. Overnight lows should return back to near-50.

An early look at next week indicates milder conditions lasting for Monday and Tuesday but with clouds and some rain. Then back to the cooler pattern (highs only in the 50s) for Wednesday-Friday before returning to milder temps for next weekend. May looks to start with below average temps but that will still be kind of nice (highs in the low-60s). It’s better than highs in the 50s but still won’t be where we’d all like it to be. Hang in there, it’s coming. Have a great weekend and please be safe! JC
