Great Start to Labor Day Weekend

Discussion: A broad area of high pressure will control New Jersey and surrounding areas this weekend. Basically a high pressure cycle. Cool and dry winds out of the N as the high approaches (now through Friday AM). Warm and tranquil while the high is overhead (Friday PM-Sat AM). Warm and muggy with S flow once the high drifts past NJ to the E (Sat PM-Sunday). By Monday, there will likely be return flow convergence overhead that will likely introduce showers to the region. Friday, Saturday, and Sunday seem like the best outdoor activity days. Labor Day…meh could go either way.

Thursday (Sept 1) high temperatures should reach the mid-80s for most areas. Skies should be mostly sunny with a pleasant feel. Winds should be light out of the W/NW. Overnight lows should range from near-50 to near-60 (with dry feel) for most but maybe mid-to-upper 60s for immediate coastal areas.

Friday (Sept 2) high temperatures should reach the mid-80s again with mostly sunny skies and a pleasant feel. Winds should be light out of the E/SE. Overnight lows should range from mid-50s to mid-60s (another cool night) from elevations to coasts.

Saturday (Sept 3) high temperatures should reach into the 80s for most areas. Interior CNJ/SNJ might take a run at 90 but the drier feel should be in place still…at least through morning. Might see humidity trickle back in for afternoon-forward. Skies should be mixed with sun and clouds. Winds should be light out of the E/SE. Overnight lows should fall into the 60s statewide.

Sunday (Sept 4) high temperatures should reach the mid-to-upper 80s for most areas with 90 possible for typical warmer locations (interior CNJ/SNJ). Skies should be mixed with sun and clouds with humidity returning. Can’t rule out an isolated afternoon thunderstorm. Winds should be light out of the SW. Overnight lows should range from 60-70 from elevations to coasts.

Monday (Sept 5) high temperatures should reach the low-to-mid 80s. Skies should be partly-to-mostly cloudy with showers possible. A very humid feel. Winds should be light out of the SE. Overnight lows should fall into the 60s for most areas.

This holiday weekend stretch in a sentence: Starts cool and dry, peak best weather Saturday, ends muggy and unsettled for actual Labor Day.

An early look at next week indicates mostly more 80s with varying humidity. Tuesday looks like the coolest day with some temps struggling to get out of 70s. A tropical system will be far out there with no direct impacts to NJ..likely just rip currents along the coast at most. Everyone have a great weekend and please be safe! JC
