Heat and Humidity Arrive

Discussion: This week is pretty straightforward. Mostly ridging in the upper levels which will lead to a warmer surface temperature profile. Some heat and humidity mid-week! Frontal passage Thursday PM (likely stormy after the warmer temps and elevated humidity). This should break the heat and humidity for Friday into the weekend. I’ll likely do a thunderstorm expectation article before Thursday and then a fully-detailed Memorial Day Weekend outlook by Friday morning. The bottom line is that, this week, we’ll continue to move away from the chilly/wet pattern towards more of a milder/dry pattern.

Monday (May 20) high temperatures should reach near-80 for most NJ locations away from the ocean. Coastal areas should hang in the mid-to-upper 60s. Skies should start cloudy but improve by afternoon-forward. Winds should be light out of the E. Overnight lows should fall to the 50s statewide.

Tuesday (May 21) high temperatures should reach well into the 80s away from the ocean. Coastal areas should range 65-70. Skies should be mostly sunny with building humidity. Winds should be light out of the SW. Overnight lows should fall back into the 50s statewide.

Wednesday (May 22) high temperatures should range from 85-90 away from the ocean. Coastal areas should hit 70. Skies should be mixed with more sun than clouds. Expect a humid feel. Winds should be light-to-breezy out of the S/SW, breeziest along the SENJ coast. Overnight lows should only fall to the lower-60s for most areas.

Thursday (May 23) high temperatures should again reach the 85-90 range away from the ocean with coastal areas likely reaching 70. Skies should star with a mix of sun and clouds but showers and thunderstorms are on the table which should break the humidity. I’ll probably do a thunderstorm expectation article as we closer approach. Winds should be light out of the SW. Overnight lows should fall to the 55-60 range for most areas.

Friday (May 24) high temperatures should reach the upper-70s/lower-80s for most NJ locations. Skies should be mostly sunny with a less humid feel. Winds should be light out of the W/NW. Overnight lows should range from 40s to 50s from NNJ elevations to SNJ coasts.

An early look at the weekend indicates comfortable/mild temperatures (65-75) with a mixed bag of sun and clouds. First half of the weekend looks better than second half but let’s take a more detailed look at Memorial Day Weekend in a few days. Have a great week and please be safe! JC
