Late Summer Feelz
Discussion: The upper jet is taking a little dip over NJ for this weekend into early next week. Not an anomalous trough by any means, it’s pretty weak, but at least a much needed cooldown after this past week. The stormfront that came through yesterday targeting SNJ with the heaviest rainfall was the summer backbreaker. I’m not saying it won’t get hot and humid again (plenty of summer left) but I doubt we’ll see the relentless heat indices that we just endured until next summer. I’m not even calling this weekend the first tease of fall, more like a late-summer tease occurring mid-summer. High pressure along the back of the trough will be in control and providing N/NE flow to the region. Today is certainly below average temperature as humidity trickles out. Saturday and Sunday should be near average but with low humidity. A very pleasant weekend. Next week, we should return to highs in the mid-to-upper 80s with dew points in the 60s-approaching 70. Warm and humid yes, but nowhere near the feel we’ve had for the last few weeks. July air conditioning bills are not going to be pretty. Tropics are waking up but no direct threats to NJ or the east coast currently.
Forecast
Friday (Aug 1) high temperatures should max out in the mid-70s for most NJ locations. Skies should gradually transition from cloudy/drizzly to much improvement by sundown. Humidity will continue to lower. Winds should remain light-to-breezy out of the N/NE, breeziest, possibly even gusty, along the SENJ coast. Overnight lows should range from 50-60 from NNJ elevations to SNJ coasts.
Saturday (Aug 2) high temperatures should reach near-80 for most NJ locations. Skies should be mostly sunny with a pleasant feel. Winds should be light-to-breezy out of the N/NE, breeziest along the coast. Overnight lows should range from 50-60 from NNJ elevations to SNJ coasts.
Sunday (Aug 3) high temperatures should reach the low-to-mid 80s for most NJ locations. Skies should be mixed with more sun than clouds. Winds should be light-to-breezy out of the E/NE, again breeziest along the immediate coast. Overnight lows should range from 55-65 NNJ to SNJ.
An early look at next week (Aug 4-8) indicates the return of warmth and humidity but nowhere near as bad as this past week…80s and a little sticky rather than 90s and unbearable. Have a great weekend and please be safe! JC
