Mild Spring Conditions (April 6-10)

Discussion: The upper-jet looks to stay near/overhead of NJ this week in a zonal configuration. The jet will slowly build intensity and likely flex into a decent streak by Thursday-Friday. 500mb geopotential height anomalies should be near-average for the start of the week but drop negative by Thursday with the passing of a strong low pressure system to the N of NJ (over SE Canada). All of this points towards very similar conditions every day this week…mild temperatures with a mix of sun, clouds and passing spring showers. No day should be a washout. Most of the days should feature sun and clouds. But the traditional spring showers cannot be ruled out with an unsettled upper-level pattern, especially during late-afternoon through overnight hours. The weekend should be drier once the system drags a cold front through. This would mean clearer skies, slightly cooler (not cold) temperatures and no rain.

Monday (April 6) high temperatures should at least reach near-60 for most areas. Interior CNJ/SNJ could take a run into the mid-to-upper 60s and possibly flirt with 70. We’ll see. Regardless a comfortably mild day statewide. Skies should be mostly sunny. Winds should be light out of the W/NW. Overnight lows should range from mid-30s to mid-40s.

Tuesday (April 7) high temperatures should reach near-60 for most areas. Skies should be mixed with sun and clouds for most of the day with increasing cloudiness towards evening hours. A few passing spring showers cannot be ruled out especially later in the afternoon/evening. Winds should be light out of the SW. Overnight lows should fall to near-50 with more passing showers.

Wednesday (April 8) high temperatures should reach well into the 60s for most areas. 70+ is very possible for the traditional warmer spots of interior CNJ/SNJ. Skies should be mixed with sun and clouds with isolated spring showers possible. Winds should be light out of the W/NW. Overnight lows should fall into the 40s statewide.

Thursday (April 9) high temperatures should reach the mid-to-upper 50s for most areas. Low-60s possible for interior CNJ/SNJ. Skies should be mixed with sun and clouds with more passing spring showers possible. Winds should be light-to-breezy out of the W/SW. Overnight lows should range from mid-30s to mid-40s NNJ to SNJ.

Friday (April 10) high temperatures should reach the low-to-mid 50s for most areas. Skies should be mixed with sun and clouds with a few isolated spring showers possible. Winds should be light-to-breezy out of the W/NW. Overnight lows should range from mid-30s to mid-40s NNJ to SNJ.

An early look at the weekend indicates highs ranging from mid-50s to lower-60s and lows ranging from mid-30s to mid-40s with mixed skies. Cooler but drier. Let’s see how it looks in a few days. Everyone have a great week and please be safe! JC
