Mixed but Warmer
Discussion: After today’s (Thursday) chillier day, milder SW flow will re-establish by early Friday morning to produce a milder weekend. Spring showers possible at any time (isolated and passing kind) but most of the weekend looks okay. A frontal system, attached to a Canadian-tracking low pressure system, should push through NJ Sunday and set up a chillier start to next week followed by milder moderation for second half of next week. It’s that time of year when spring showers can happen at anytime despite no all-day washouts.
Forecast
Thursday night (April 2) should fall to the 40-45 range for most NJ locations with cloudy skies and some light rain/drizzle around. Dense fog could form heading into Friday morning since warm air will be on its way back to NJ.
Friday (April 3) high temperatures should eventually push into the low-to-mid 70s for most of NJ. Coastal regions should max out closer to 65. Morning skies could be gloomy as light drizzle and clouds clear out but improvement (sun breaking through) is expected by late-morning. Winds should be breezy out of the S/SW. Overnight lows should fall back to the mid-to-upper 50s for most NJ locations. Can’t rule out an isolated passing shower into Saturday morning.
Saturday (April 4) high temperatures should reach the mid-to-upper 70s for most NJ locations. Skies should be mixed with mostly sun and some clouds. Can’t rule out passing isolated showers at any time. Winds should start light out of the SE but increase to breezy/gusty out of the S at times by evening. Overnight lows should range from 50-60 from NNJ to SNJ as winds continue into Sunday.
Sunday (April 5) high temperatures should reach the mid-to-upper 60s for most NJ locations. Skies should be a mixed bag of sun, clouds, showers and possibly thunderstorms. Looks like a frontal system that I will be able to time better on Saturday for when it will come through Sunday. Winds should be breezy, occasionally gusty, our of the W/SW. Overnight lows should fall to the 38-45 range NNJ to SNJ with some more passing showers possible.
An early look at next week (April 6-10) indicates more mixed bag conditions…roller coaster temps, sun, clouds, showers and thunderstorms. Early-to-mid week looks more unsettled and chillier than mid-to-late week. Let’s revisit in a few days. Have a great weekend and please be safe! JC
