Mixed Conditions (April 20-24)

Discussion: A very active pattern is likely for the next week or so. The upper-levels should see multiple shortwaves and troughs for the Mid-Atlantic US. At the surface the first disturbance is Monday. A low will eject near OBX and track just SE of the 40N/70W benchmark. This produces fringe rain chances for ECNJ and SENJ while the rest of NJ likely stays cloudy but dry. Then we have a cold front Tuesday night attached to a SE Canadian tracking low. The cold front will likely feature downpours and gusty thunderstorms ahead of it (Tuesday PM) but will be reinforced by high pressure tracking through the eastern central US. This should make early Wednesday AM the coldest part of the week. We then moderate milder Thursday into Friday with more rain showing Friday and Sunday. Saturday looks like the better weekend day from this range.

Monday (April 20) high temperatures should reach the mid-to-upper 50s for most areas. Skies should be mixed with sun and clouds along and NW of the turnpike. Areas SE of the turnpike could see periods of rain from the fringe of a coastal storm. Winds should be light out of the N/NE. Overnight lows should range from near-freezing to mid-40s NNJ to SNJ.

Tuesday (April 21) high temperatures should reach into the low-to-mid 60s for most areas. Parts of NNJ might hang in the upper-50s. While the day should start with just sun and clouds, thunderstorms are possible during afternoon-evening hours capable of producing periods of heavy rain, hail, lightning and gusty winds. Winds should be breezy out of the SW otherwise. Overnight lows should range from near-30 to near-40 NNJ to SNJ.

Wednesday (April 22) high temperatures should reach near-50 for most areas maybe mid-50s for interior CNJ/SNJ. Skies should be mixed with sun and clouds. Winds should be breezy out of the W/NW. Overnight lows should range from near-30 to near-40 NNJ to SNJ.

Thursday (April 23) high temperatures should range from near-60 to near-70 NNJ to SNJ. Skies should be mixed with sun and clouds with a chance for isolated showers during afternoon/evening hours. Winds should be light out of the S/SW. Overnight lows should range from mid-40s to mid-50s NNJ to SNJ.

Friday (April 24) high temperatures should range from near-50 to near-60 NNJ to SNJ. Skies should be mostly cloudy with periods of rain possible. Winds should be light out of the N/NE. Overnight lows should range from mid-30s to near-50 NNJ to SNJ.

An early look at the weekend indicates milder temperatures with Saturday currently looking drier than Sunday. Everyone have a great week and please be safe! JC
