Mixed Weekend Weather Expected (Jan 16-18)

The first part of the weekend looks dry and sunny but Sunday could feature some rain and wind. Here’s what to expect:

Friday should reach the mid-30s to lower 40s for high temperatures (from NWNJ to SENJ). Winds should be stiff out of the NW with a mixed bag of mostly sun and clouds. Overnight lows then fall into the single digits and teens.

Saturday should struggle to break 30 statewide. Expect a cold sunny day with light winds out of the N/NW. Overnight lows then fall into the teens and 20s.

Sunday has a chance for rain, especially along the coast. High temperatures should range from upper-30s to mid-40s (NWNJ to SENJ) as coastal precipitation grazes New Jersey. It’s the kind of system where the coast could see rain while interior/WNJ sees overcast skies. The western extent of precipitation will have to be now-casted.  Winds will rock from SE to NW as the low pressure circulation parallels the coast from S to N. Expect gusty winds along the coast at first followed by cold northerly winds to finish. Back end flurries/snow showers are showing on some guidance but usually that’s an old wives tale. Once precipitation clears, overnight lows should dip into the 20s and lower-30s.

Next week looks cold with two potential features…another clipper mid-week and larger storm for the weekend. It’s only showing on long range guidance at this point which means we’re far from a forecast…simply discussion of whether or not the current pattern supports the modeled solutions or not. I’ll be monitoring these possibilities through the weekend and keep you posted on any developments.
