More Heat Humidity and Storms
Discussion: A ridge will set up over the N Plains/N/S Dakota area this week. This will position upper flow over the Great Lakes and towards NJ and much of the N Mid-Atlantic US/New England. This pattern should stay locked until a weak trough tries to backfill into the E US Saturday night into Sunday. To me that means a cold front/stormfront later this week/weekend. We’ll have to watch for anything coming down the ring of fire storm highway early-to-mid this week however the stormiest days are looking like Friday-Saturday with some heat and humidity relief for Sunday. Otherwise, heat and humidity will dominate this week until the storms show up and begin breaking down the heat. Unfortunately we’re only looking at 1-2 days of relief later this weekend before the hot and humid pattern likely reloads for next week.
Forecast
Monday (July 13) high temperatures maxed in the 80s with mostly sunny skies and manageable humidity. Winds should remain light out of the S as overnight lows fall back into the 60s for another pleasant mid-summer night.
Tuesday (July 14) high temperatures should reach the mid-to-upper 90s for most NJ locations away from the ocean with coastal areas nearing 90. Skies should be mixed with more sun than clouds and with a humid feel. Winds should be light out of the SW. Overnight lows should stay just above 70 statewide.
Wednesday (July 15) high temperatures should reach or slightly exceed 100 for many NJ areas, especially CNJ/SNJ away from the ocean and closer to the Philly-Trenton section of I-95. Coastal areas should push well into the 90s. Skies should be mixed with sun and clouds with a humid feel. Winds should be light-to-breezy out of the W/SW. Overnight lows should again stay just above 70 with NNJ elevations possibly dipping into the upper-60s.
Thursday (July 16) high temperatures should reach into the 90s for most NJ locations. Not as hot as Tues-Wed but still hot and humid. Skies should be mixed with sun and clouds. Winds should be light out of the W/SW. Overnight lows should fall to the 60-70 range NNJ to SNJ.
Friday (July 17) high temperatures should reach 90 or just over for many NJ locations. Skies should start out mixed with more sun than clouds but afternoon-evening thunderstorms are possible. Winds should be light out of the W/NW, possibly a little breezier for SNJ. Overnight lows should fall to the 65-73 range with more isolated thunderstorms possible into Saturday morning.
An early look at the weekend (June 18-19) indicates more 90s and unsettled thunderstorm activity. Though Sunday looks less humid than Saturday which should feel good after the upcoming week of heat and humidity. Looks like we’re right back to it for the week after though. Have a great week and please be safe! JC
