More Rain
Discussion: We’ve had a nice little break between the lower geopotential heights with current weak ridging. This allowed for an immaculate Saturday night through today (Tuesday). Another area of lower heights will start moving in late tonight. A few pieces of energy will actually form together to produce anomalously low geopotential heights from this Wednesday (tomorrow) through about Saturday. This means more rain and below-average temperatures. Wednesday and Saturday look like the rainiest days however Thursday and Friday should still feature at least intermittent showers. It all looks to move out Saturday afternoon/evening with a more prolonged period of ridging establishing for after. Right now, ~June 2/3-forward looks like the start of more average temperatures for the year with a dryer look. Most of the upcoming unsettled Wed-Sat period looks like rain only however embedded boomers are possible any day on an isolated basis.
Forecast
Tuesday (May 27) high temperatures should reach the mid-70s away from the ocean and mid-to-upper 60s along the coasts. Skies should start in good shape with clouds increasing through PM hours. Winds should be light out of the S/SE. Overnight lows should fall into the 50s with rain possibly pushing into SNJ by daybreak Wednesday.
Wednesday (May 28) high temperatures should range from lower-to-upper 60s NNJ to SNJ. Skies should be mostly cloudy with periods of rain likely. Winds should be breezy out of the E/NE. Overnight lows should fall back into the 55-60 range as periods of rain persist into Thursday.
Thursday (May 29) high temperatures should reach the low-to-mid 70s for most NJ locations. Skies should be mixed with sun, clouds, and a few showers around. Winds should be light-to-breezy out of the W/NW. Overnight lows should fall back to 58-63 range as showers remain possible into Friday.
Friday (May 30) high temperatures should reach the low-to-mid 70s for most NJ locations. Skies should be mixed with sun, clouds, and more showers. Winds should be light-to-breezy out of the N/NW. Overnight lows should fall back to near-60 as showers and possibly boomers happen into Saturday morning.
An early look at the weekend (May 31-June 1) indicates ok temperatures (70+) but Saturday looks to be the last unsettled day of rain/storms/etc. before a much better Sunday. Let’s take a closer look in a few days. Have a great week and please be safe! JC
