More Unsettled Conditions

Discussion: Temps tonight should drop to about 60 statewide, give or take a few degrees, as periods of rain continue moving through on-and-off. The upper low remains trapped to the S of the Great Lakes. It will reach peak intensity on Monday along with the ridge spanning from SE Canada across the NE US into the Atlantic Ocean. The low and ridge will weaken each other before finally both moving eastward with the general westerlies. I’m seeing more influence from future upper lows and troughs which is why this entire week looks very unsettled and uncertain. We need the rain however outdoor activities do not need the disruption…and it won’t be steady widespread rain…Moreso on-and-off periods of rain here and there with thunderstorms possible within (embedded). Wednesday night might produce the best lull/break from it all but Thursday-Friday also looks unsettled. As of right now, it all clears out for Saturday-Sunday but I’ll need to see fresh data confirming such as late as Wednesday-Thursday before I buy into it. But as of right now, this week looks unsettled, cool and wet and the weekend looks sunny and clear.

Forecast

Monday (May 5) high temperatures should reach the mid-to-upper 60s for most NJ locations. Skies should be mostly cloudy with periods of rain likely. Winds should be light-to-breezy out of the E (breeziest along the ECNJ/SENJ coasts). Overnight lows should fall back to near-60 with more periods of rain likely into Tuesday morning.

Tuesday (May 6) high temperatures should reach the mid-to-upper 60s for NNJ and coasties. Interior CNJ/SNJ has the best shot to run up to the mid-70s. Skies should be mostly cloudy with periods of rain likely and possibly thunderstorms. Winds should be light-to-breezy out of the S/SE. Overnight lows should fall back to the 55-60 range as rain tapers off.

Wednesday (May 7) high temperatures should reach the low-to-mid 70s for most NJ locations. Skies should be mixed with sun and clouds…improvement but can’t rule out a few remnant passing showers especially for NNJ earlier in the day. Winds should be light-to-breezy out of the W/NW. Overnight lows should fall back to the 55-60 range as conditions continue improving/drying.

Thursday (May 8) high temperatures should reach the mid-to-upper 60s for most NJ locations. Skies should be mixed with more clouds than sun. Isolated showers are possible, especially during PM hours. Winds should be light-to-breezy out of the W/NW. Overnight lows should fall to the 45-55 range with more isolated showers possible into Friday morning.

Friday (May 9) high temperatures should just reach 60 statewide. Skies should be mixed with sun and clouds. Winds should be light-to-breezy out of the N. Overnight lows should range from 40-50 NNJ to SNJ under a dry and more crisp sky.

An early look at the weekend (May 10-11) indicates improvement. Mid-60s for Saturday and mid-70s for Sunday, both days mostly sunny behind all the unsettled weather this week. Let’s take another look in a few days to see if the great weekend forecast holds. Have a great week and please be safe! JC
