Not Bad

Discussion: A cold front is pushing through this morning (Monday) which could feature showers and thunderstorms just ahead/along it. It’s already into NNJ and should clear through all of NUJ by early afternoon today (Monday) if not sooner. Once that is through, we’re in for another stretch of beautiful conditions from Monday afternoon through at least Wednesday as another area of high pressure approaches, passes overhead, and then moves out to sea. Once the high is out to sea (as early as Wednesday night but by Thursday), we’ll start to see the humidity build on the return flow (SW winds). Conditions should then become hotter and more humid into the weekend (remaining mostly dry) as another warm sector establishes ahead of another cold front expected to pass through for the weekend. Sort of a wash rinse repeat pattern however this week looks mostly dry between Monday morning’s cold front and the weekend cold front. So warm and pleasant to start this week…gradually transitioning to hazy, hot, and humid by Thursday/Friday. Assuming the cold front pushes through either Saturday or Sunday, then Monday (4^th of July) would, in-theory, be okay under a new area of high pressure behind that front. I plan to take a comprehensive look at the weekend in the Wednesday/Thursday period.

Monday (June 27) high temperatures should reach near-80 for most areas. Skies should start humid, stormy, and rainy for AM hours with improvement expected by afternoon-forward. The rain/storm front should reach NWNJ first (early morning) and clear SENJ last (by noonish, maybe early afternoon). Winds should be light out of the SW ahead of the front and breezy out of the NW just behind it with NW winds subsiding overnight. Overnight lows should range from mid-50s to mid-60s from elevations to coasts.  

Tuesday (June 28) high temperatures should reach the mid-to-upper 70s. Skies should be mostly sunny with a pleasant feel (lower humidity). Winds should be light out of the NW. Overnight lows should range from 50-65 from elevations to coasts.

Wednesday (June 29) high temperatures should reach the low-to-mid 80s. Skies should be mostly sunny with humidity trickling back in. Winds should be light out of the SW. Overnight lows should range from mid-50s to mid-60s from elevations to coasts.

Thursday (June 30) high temperatures should reach into the 80s for most areas, possibly 90 away from the ocean. Skies should be mostly sunny with a more humid feel. Winds should be Light out of the W/SW. Overnight lows should range from 60-70 from elevations to coasts.

Friday (July 1) high temperatures should reach into the 90s for most areas away from the ocean. Immediate coastal areas should hang in the 80s. Skies should be mostly sunny…hazy, hot, and humid. Winds should be light out of the SW. Overnight lows could hang at 70 or above statewide.

An early look at the weekend indicates an unsettled look. Humid, highs in the 80s, and storms around (attached to cold front – so not a washout – likely an hour or two of rain when it comes through). Once the cold front clears it should make for a good 4^th of July (Monday). Let’s take a closer look in a few days. Have a great week and please be safe! JC
