Run-of-Mill Mid-Summer Conditions

Discussion: The upper jet is rather unremarkable for the next week or so. No major dips (troughs) or peaks (ridges). The only thing that jumps out at me is SW flow aloft from the decaying front of the trough leading into the backside of a ridge over NJ. The SW flow likely means a warm (not hot) flow of air with humidity, showers and thunderstorms around most of next week, clearing in time for next weekend. For this weekend, expect run-of-mill mid-summer conditions. Saturday looks sunnier than Sunday and Sunday PM hours feature the best chances for any showers or thunderstorms.

Forecast

Friday (Jul 31) high temperatures maxed out in the mid-to-upper 80s for most NJ locations. A few of the typically warmer locations near I-95 reached 90 while the immediate coast held in the 75-80 range. With dews in the 60s, some lower-70s, it’s a little sticky feeling out there. Skies should remain clear with light NW winds as overnight lows fall to the 60-70 range NNJ to SNJ.

Saturday (Aug 1) high temperatures should reach the mid-80s for most NJ locations. Skies should be mixed with sun and clouds. Winds should be light out of the S/SE. Overnight lows should range from 65-75 from NNJ to SNJ.

Sunday (Aug 2) high temperatures should reach the mid-80s for most NJ locations. Skies should be mixed with more clouds than sun. Can’t rule out some passing showers or even rumbles but most should miss. Winds should remain light out of the S/SE. Overnight lows should fall to near-70 statewide with a few more isolated showers/rumbles possibly around.

An early look at next week (Aug 3-7) indicates a rather unsettled week (rain and storms on-and-off) with highs in the 80s and humidity. Next weekend currently looks drier. Have a great weekend and please be safe! JC
