Unsettled Start. Beautiful Finish (May 29-31)

Discussion: A NW upper jet should be nearby NJ for the foreseeable near future. We’re going to build a trough slowly between Saturday and Sunday which should flex Sunday-Tuesday before heights rise Wednesday-forward. High pressure has remained nearly stationary the last few days just N of Bermuda. This has been pumping warmer flow in from the S. This high is going to finally progress eastward but only because it was booted by another high moving into the area with a strip of unsettledness between highs (Friday into Saturday morning). Sunday through Tuesday should then feel majestic with sunny dry-feeling highs topping out near-70 for most areas under light NW flow. Overnight hours could be cool for this period (Sunday and Monday night). Not cold! But cool. We then get on the return flow side of the high by Wednesday for returning humidity and higher temperatures. So warm, unsettled, and stormy Friday-Saturday morning. Improving Saturday afternoon-evening. Majestic Sunday-Tuesday. And then summery Wednesday-forward.

Note: Unless specifically mentioned by location (Example: NNJ elevations, SENJ immediate coast, Interior CNJ/SNJ, etc.) assume the following forecast language is statewide for New Jersey.

Friday (May 29) high temperatures should reach near-80 for most. A little warmer for interior CNJ/SNJ. Maybe closer to 70 for the SENJ coast. Skies should be mixed with showers and thunderstorms possible. There should be a humid feel. Winds should be light out of the S. Overnight lows should fall into the 60s.

Saturday (May 30) high temperatures should reach the low-to-mid 80s away from the ocean. Coastal regions could hang in the mid-to-upper 70s. Skies should start cloudier with showers and thunderstorms possible for AM hours. Conditions should improve by afternoon and especially by evening. Winds should be light out of the W/SW. Overnight lows should range from near-50 to near-60.

Sunday (May 31) high temperatures should reach near-70 for most areas. Maybe low-70s in some areas. NNJ elevations might max out in the upper-60s. Skies should be mostly sunny. Winds should be light out of the NW. Overnight lows should range from mid-40s to mid-50s.

An early look at next week indicates the lower-70s with low humidity pattern lasting through about Tuesday (cool nights). It looks like slightly warmer temperatures and humidity start returning Wednesday-forward with at least mid-to-upper 70s likely into next weekend. Let’s see how it looks on Sunday. Everyone have a great weekend and please be safe! JC
