Warmer Temps Approaching

Discussion: 250mb analysis indicates mostly a zonal flow across the US but favoring some ridge peaks here and there. These ridge peaks will allow 500mb heights to build over the E US and furthermore warmer air to be brought northwards into the NJ area and produce a warm Saturday through at least Wednesday. We’re then looking at a frontal rain/thunderstorm system pushing through ahead of a cold front that should return NJ back to near-average temps for most of Memorial Day Weekend. That means highs in the 70-75 region with a pleasant feel. While no major synoptic rain systems are showing for MDM, we can’t rule out passing spring showers at an isolated basis.

Forecast

Friday (May 15) high temperatures topped out in the mid-60s today for most of NJ. A mixed bag of sun and clouds with a refreshing feel. Winds will be out of the NW overnight with lows dropping to the 40s for many with some SNJ spots staying in the 50s (likely the last chillier night for a while).

Saturday (May 16) high temperatures should reach well into the 70s for most NJ locations and likely breaking into the 80s across most areas away from the ocean. Skies should be mostly sunny with still some dry air (non-humid) around. Winds should be light out of the S/SW, a little breezier along the SNJ coast. Overnight lows should fall to near-60 for most NJ locations.

Sunday (May 17) high temperatures should reach well into the 80s for most NJ locations. Coastal regions could hang in the mid-70s but might also have a shot to take a run at 80 before any sea breeze kicks up. Humidity should be noticeably increased but nothing horrible. Skies should be mixed with more sun than clouds. Can’t rule out some passing showers given the temps and humidity. Winds should be light out of the W. Overnight lows should fall back to near-60 again into Monday morning.

An early look at next week (May 18-22) indicates the warmer weather continuing through at least Wednesday. Thursday into Memorial Day Weekend then looks cooler…back to near-average temperatures which is gorgeous (highs 70-75). Seeing a little rain Thursday with the transition from warm to average but other than that, MDW looks pretty good sky-wise…mixed sun and clouds and again, comfortable temps under high sun-angle. Let’s take a closer look in a few days. Have a great weekend and please be safe! JC
