Weekend Outlook – Chillier than You’d Like but Dry

Discussion: High pressure has tracked from SW Canada to about Illinois currently (Friday night 10pm). The high will continue tracking towards the SE US until about Sunday morning—continuing to drive colder air into NNJ from the N. On Sunday the high departs and winds switch from NW to S/SW. That will produce a warmer Sunday (after a colder Saturday) as we head towards a warm first half of next week, at least Monday-Wednesday. Showers and thunderstorms possible Wednesday PM ahead of a cold front to set up a colder Thursday into next weekend. But yeah, not seeing any more rain until Wednesday PM.

Forecast

Friday Night (March 27) overnight temperatures should bottom out in the 25-35 range. Many will dip just below freezing. Most of NJ should remain clear outside of a passing shower across extreme SNJ.

Saturday (March 28) high temperatures should reach the mid-40s for most NJ locations…about 10 degrees below average for this time of year. Skies should be mixed with more sun than clouds. Winds should be light-to-breezy out of the NW. Overnight lows should range from 20-32 NNJ to SNJ and that might be one of the last nights that much of NJ dips below 30. Usually it’s only held to elevations this time of year but 20s are likely extending S and E of 95/NJTP. Coasties stay at or above 30.

Sunday (March 29) high temperatures should reach the mid-50s for most NJ locations. If anyone is going to try and run at 60, it would be interior CNJ/SNJ. If anyone is going to be trapped in the upper-40s it would be NWNJ elevations. Skies should be mixed with sun and clouds. Winds should be breezy out of the S/SW. Overnight lows should fall to a range of 35-45 NNJ to SNJ.

An early look at next week (March 30-April 3) indicates a rather mild Monday-Wednesday with each day progressively a few degrees warmer than the previous day. Can’t rule out 80 away from the ocean in CNJ/SNJ, especially on Tuesday. Dense fog could form Sunday night into Monday morning and Monday night into Tuesday morning. Even coasties, much like NNJ elevations, could push into the 65-75 range Tues-Wed. A round of showers, possibly thunderstorms, and a cold front should push through Wednesday PM into Thursday AM and that should reset us back to cooler conditions Thursday into next weekend. Let’s have another look in a few days. Have a great weekend and please be safe! JC
