Warmth Humidity and Ultimately Rain Returns

Discussion: The upper jet, observed at 250mb, should stay just to the N of NJ for the rest of this week and weekend with high pressure over or to the S of NJ. At 500mb, that’s going to build up a few warm days of E US ridging before the pattern caves back to cooler temperatures for the weekend. A cold front is expected to pass through Friday into Saturday morning. This weekend, a weak low pressure system will crawl up the east coast just offshore due to high pressure blocking persistently staying on the NW side of the weak low as it tracks from OBX to coastal New England. It might be next Thursday before the weak coastal moves away.

In English: Tonight’s the last cooler night of low humidity. Tomorrow (Wednesday) we should see dew points rise above 60 and temperatures rise above 80. This should feel gross after the last few days. Not a bad deal for local summer beachgoers though. Many NJ areas should see three straight days of 80s (Wed-Fri). A cold front then pushes rain through Friday into Saturday morning. We should enjoy a very brief period of temp/humidity relief Saturday (70s and dry) before rain moves back in by Sunday morning, if not late Saturday night. We then stay in a prolonged rainy humid period from about Sunday to next Wednesday, possibly Thursday. Throughout the rainy stretch we’re looking at high temps in the 70s and dew points in the 60s. Good old ocean-fed September rain. It has a unique feel that’s humid but almost refreshing/breezy. This is what the general weather pattern looks like for the next week or so.
